I am currently CEO of Cattle Empire, LLC and one of the second generation of Browns to run Cattle Empire. I grew up in Southwest Kansas and worked on the family farm throughout my childhood and high school days. I attended college at Wichita State University where I earned a degree in Business Administration. After graduation, I went to law school at Tulane University in New Orleans, LA. I graduated law school in 1984 and then practiced law in Wichita, KS for 12 years specializing in agriculture reorganizations. In 1995 I moved my family to Satanta, KS and transitioned my law practice to begin my career in the cattle feeding industry. Even though I no longer practice law, I am still a licensed attorney in the State of Kansas and am a member of the Kansas Bar Association and the Wichita Bar Association.
Upon arriving in Western Kansas in 1995, my wife and I purchased what is now Cattle Empire #3, which I managed until 1997 when it was merged with the rest of CE. I have been CEO since the merger and in that time have grown CE from a one-time capacity of 79,000 head to its current capacity of 245,500 head. Cattle Empire is currently the 5th largest cattle feeding operation in the United States and the largest family-owned.
My favorite parts of the job are leading our organization in a team management style and trading cattle and commodities. I do not have much free time but when I do I love to ride my Harley Electraglide and play with my dog, Migo.
My wife, Laura, and I have been married 30 years and have two children, Trista and Becca. Trista graduated from Kansas State University for both her undergraduate and Masters of Business Administration degrees. In 2012 she assumed the role of Vice President of Cattle Empire. Becca graduated Kansas State University in 2011 with an Ag Communication degree. She currently serves as manager of association marketing for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association in Denver.
